Sarah Hill is an emerging contemporary artist based in the Macleay Valley on the East Coast of New South Wales. Sarah draws significant inspiration from her environment, translating memories of place and objects through a whimsical gaze. Her art is an intertwining of memory and imagination that captures the subject matters essence in unique imagery. Often depicting botanical themes that are distinctive for their vibrant semi-abstract representations.
Describing her practice as finding a synchronicity between our surrounds and ourselves, Sarah searches for the rhythm, balance and wonder found in both. Working primarily with acrylic paint, she is driven by an intuitive process and layers colour with texture in arbitrary shapes which is then complemented with complex line work. Sarah graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) where she predominantly focused on ceramic sculpture and painting.
