Kate Jarman lives in Perth with her two children. The granddaughter of a nurseryman and daughter of a veterinarian and horse trainer, she grew up surrounded by plants and animals and spent her childhood riding horses, making cubbies in the bush and swimming in the Serpentine River. She lived in Minnesota for a while during primary school and travelled though eleven states on a road trip that included the Arizonian desert. Kate also lived in Sydney and London and has spent time travelling around various other parts of the world.
She studied Painting and Curating at The Byam Shaw School of Art and Central Saint Martins College in London, and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University with a Dean's Commendation in 2010.
Her work is an homage to the ‘Jungalow’, a synonym for treehouse derived from words ‘jungle’ and ‘bungalow’. She is interested in how we instinctually choose to surround ourselves with indoor plants, botanical and nature inspired textiles and artworks. Kate’s lyrical paintings are a celebration of that joyful connection and sense of wonder we have with nature.
