Katie Wyatt – “Horizons”
I’m often asked if my paintings are specific locations – a particular place or area. I always answer that my pieces are created entirely from memory, recollection and emotion as a response to experiencing the incredible beauty of our Australian landscape and coastline.
My work is very intuitive and I draw upon my own experiences to create original paintings that try to capture a sense of place. I hope to make pieces that speak to the viewer on an individual level, allowing the work to be interpreted based on personal experiences.
In “Horizons” I have created 22 Australian landscapes and beachscapes. The smaller pieces were created as studies to form a foundation for the larger works that followed. The horizon line is featured in each painting not just to define where earth and sky meet, but to provide perspective to express the vastness of our beautiful land.
