Claerwen is an Australian artist who studied at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design London in the early 2000’s. Her work is influenced by the themes of Australian identity & sustainability.
“At the front of my consciousness sculpture practice is the urgent need to address climate change and preserve our precious ecosystem. I feel compelled to make art that deeply considers our global climate crisis, because it is the biggest challenge of my lifetime. Why can’t so many political leaders recognise the urgency? I use recycled materials to make objects that symbolise our exotic, native Australian plants. The feminine shapes and colours stand for my belief that we need to invest in value ‘feminine’ qualities for our planet to survive. Qualities such as caring, nurturing, educating, creative thinking, inclusivity etc. My tool for change is art and investing in my community”.
