Brigita Lastauskaite is a Lithuanian-born visual artist, living and working in Melbourne/ Naarm. She works from her studio in St.Kilda. Brigita completed Masters of Fine Art at the Vilnius Art Academy and studied at International Summer Academy in Salzburg. She was a finalist at Hutchins, Fisher’s Ghost, and Blacktown Art Awards.
The main theme of her paintings is the sea and underwater landscapes, inspired by her love of the ocean & snorkeling. Brigita views her paintings as gestural abstract landscapes, which are quite visceral and relate to inward feelings rather than to intellect. Her painting process is very spontaneous, impulsive, and raw. Continually looking at new ways to further develop her visual language, explore new ways of mark making and subtly communicate through her compositions, the influence of working with textiles and texture from her time in Lithuania is still evident in her painting practice today.
