"The Donkey Race in Bunnaloo"
In Bunnaloo, a town so small the post office doubled as the gossip exchange, there lived a donkey named Douglas. He wasn’t much to look at—shaggy coat, ears like windmills, and a habit of eating hats if left unattended. But when it came to racing, Douglas had legs like pistons and a stubborn streak wider than the Murray.
Legend has it, Douglas first entered the Bunnaloo Cup by accident. Old Mick had hitched him to a sulky meant for the tip, but when the starter’s gun went off, Douglas took it personally. He shot forward so fast Mick’s dentures flew out, landed in the prize pie, and Douglas still won by three donkey-lengths.
