Seeking the lonlier way IV by Laura Oczos is part of larger body of work inspired by the changing colours and patterns in the coastal landscape around her home. By focusing on recalling these places rather than working from photographs or sketches, the landscape is reduced to an abstract representation. Each painting is created by building layers of under-painting, acrylic glazes and ink washes with areas of collage in the form of hand-dyed tissue paper. In this series, the final pattern layer is in contrasting shades of white and beige to mimic the way light reflects on the water. This is further enhanced by areas of irridescent pigment and metallic paint. As various layers are visible and along with the painterly application of acrylic, the result is shifting areas of colour and depth.
