Ngarrwa Baarlu (Birthing Caves) is a canvas print created by Australian mother-daughter art duo Miimi & Jiinda, founded by Lauren Jarrett and Melissa Greenwood. As proud Gumbaynggirr custodians, Lauren and Melissa love to share their interpretations of Country, which spring from their own personal cultural identities as Aboriginal women.
This painting represents the traditional ways of birthing on Country. It highlights how far we are removed from the old ways, in today’s western society. This work sheds light on the importance of connecting back to our roots and to our innate feminine birthing wisdom, that we all have and carry within us - letting Mother Earth be our greatest teacher.
