Famous across the Moroccan land is the ochre earthenware hand made in the village of Tamegroute. Each piece is unique, and will vary marginally in shape and size. Imperfections, and dents from where they have been laid on top of one another in the kiln are all part of the individual charm of each piece. Perfectly imperfect!

Origins of Tamegroute Pottery
Tamegroute is a village located in the Draa River valley in southern Morocco with a rich and vibrant history.
Still a village today and still specialising in their own distinctive green glazed ceramics, Tamegroute is home to 7 Atelier families. Each has their own oven and atelier. And each piece of pottery they create tells its own story. Creating pottery in a signature green shade the craftsmanship and skill is beautifully authentic to the region and truly unique.
Since Tamegroute pottery is only baked a single time, the glaze is painted before it enters the oven. The glaze consists of 80% manganese, 19% silicon and 1% copper. The 1% copper together with the clay out of the Draa river-bed is exactly what forms the characteristic ochre colour.

Colour has always been in my blood. But the memories made on a trip to the mystical magical land of Morocco almost 20 years ago stayed with me, etched inside my mind. I knew I had to return someday.
