Artist bio
Ashlea van Riet
Ashlea is an artist based in the Adelaide Hills, creating abstract works inspired by the textures, tones, and shifting light of the Australian bush. Working with acrylic and oil on canvas, her practice balances intuitive mark-making with considered composition, where earthy, grounded palettes meet moments of unexpected colour.
Her work is deeply shaped by both her surroundings and personal experience. Through periods of loss, uncertainty, and rebuilding, painting has become a way of processing and finding steadiness - this emotional undercurrent sits quietly beneath each piece, giving them a sense of depth and honesty.
Balancing life in the studio with motherhood, Ashlea’s work carries a rhythm that feels both expressive and controlled. Her paintings are designed to sit effortlessly within contemporary interiors, while inviting a slower viewing, revealing subtle movement, contrast, and layered complexity over time.
