This sculpture is a one off piece of collectable art. It is a collection of real and cast Australian native gumnuts set into a large banksia pod which is in turn set in a recycled marble base creating a collective Australian Native totem. Some of the gumnuts are supersized via a process of 3D printing. These replicated pieces are cast in resin then combined with authentic (coated) gumnuts and banksias.
The result is a mix of augmented and real objects. A man made 'mega flora'. The piece reflects the artist's concern about climate change and the future threat to our native species. It is a play with re-creating nature and an attempt to enshrine and capture these unique and precious forms. The pieces reflect feminine qualities and have names. This one is called Marge after Marge Simpson, she is a big, bold powerful babe.
