Details
Nancy is a Melbourne-based artist whose work is a textural exploration of nature’s emotional and symbolic language through floral forms. Flowers carry a universal resonance, embodying resilience, delicacy, beauty and vitality and these qualities sit at the heart of her practice. Working primarily in acrylic, Nancy uses an impasto technique to build thick, sculptural layers of paint that invite viewers to engage not only visually, but almost physically, with colour, form and texture.
This painting, Three Sisters is a deeply personal reflection on motherhood, loss, and love. The painting features two prominent proteas in full bloom and a third flower in the background. The protea, known for its strength and resilience, symbolises my daughters, their vibrant lives, their individuality and the beauty that continues to unfold as they grow.
The ethereal bloom behind them represents the child I lost, a presence that, though unseen in daily life, remains an inseparable part of our family’s story. The gentle fading of the third flower is not meant to convey absence, but rather a quiet existence beyond the visible, a spirit felt rather than seen.
Through Three Sisters, I explore the coexistence of joy and grief, growth and remembrance. It is both a tribute and a healing, not just to me but to many others who have experienced the same loss. A reminder that love endures, transcending form and time, blooming even in the spaces between.
