Yinaa - is an original piece by contemporary Aboriginal artist, Lou Martin.
In most Aboriginal cultures, the moon is a man and the sun is a woman. The symbol for woman is a U shape with one line, traditionally to the left of the U shape. This piece is a contemporary representation of woman, using strength in colour and the feminity of florals. Within the flowers are a contemporary representation of the traditional symbols for sitting together in a circle, to symbolise women helping other women in family and community, digging sticks to represent how they contribute to feeding the family, and kangaroo tracks for nurturing connection to the land.
