Jo Dyer is an Australian artist born in Port Fairy, VIC who grew up in Newcastle on the NSW coast. As a child, Jo spent a lot of time in the garden, observing plants and insects. She cites these formative years as a major influence on the type of work she creates, her inspiration largely drawn from the intricate, textural and often transient details found in the natural world. In each work Jo strives to balance the energy of her expressive, gestural marks with more considered, detailed renders, to evoke a sense of the bold yet fragile beauty of plants.
Jo studied a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Arts and French) at Newcastle University which included a semester of study in La Rochelle, France. She graduated in 2008 and has since exhibited her work in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Newcastle, Melbourne and Sydney.
